Compare distance, sprinting and sprint frequency. Physical output describes how a team plays; it does not tell us how well it plays.
Total distance and running-band distance show the workload covered. Player per-90 values allow for different minutes. Non-sprint distance and the remainder outside running + sprinting are also available, using matching readings.
Sprint distance as a share of total distance, and sprints per kilometre. Average sprint distance = sprint metres ÷ sprint count.
Distance points: draw within 1% of the match mean. Sprint points: within 3%. These are near-tie conventions, not football xPts.

Distance covered per game with paired readings. Distances convert the provider's metres to kilometres. Only games with readings for both teams count. Covered/played is shown; missing readings are not zero. More running is workload, not necessarily better football. Running/sprinting bands follow the provider; speed thresholds are not supplied. One value per match. Rolling percentages pool their matching numerator and denominator.
8/9 games recorded. Missing readings stay gaps. Six-game line; four-game line only for selections of four or five games.
There is no universal set of bands. For reference, Second Spectrum’s published men’s definitions are low-speed running at 15–20 km/h, high-speed running at 20–25 km/h, and sprinting at 25 km/h or faster. Opta’s Premier League explainer describes a sprint as over 25 km/h.
Our PitchAPI fields do not document their cutoffs or whether “running” combines the two running bands. These are reference definitions, not verified thresholds for our figures. We therefore keep the provider’s labels and do not rename the remainder as walking or jogging.
Distance is shown in km; sprint count is a number of sprints; top speed is km/h. Average sprint distance is metres per sprint. Per-90 distance uses minutes from the same games with recorded readings.

The running-output index gives 50% weight to non-sprint distance (total minus sprint distance), 25% to sprint distance and 25% to sprint count. Each uses its gap to the opponent, scaled against a frozen reference of 83 paired games. Zero means a balanced combined score.
Output points award 3 above +0.25, 1 from −0.25 to +0.25, and 0 below −0.25. The weighting and draw bands are exploratory. Alternative weights change the rankings. This is not a fitness rating and does not feed the result forecast.
Ball-in-play time, tactics, possession and match state affect running. The provider does not supply speed-band thresholds or a separate run count, so average run distance is unavailable. Player top speed is the highest recorded reading; it is never added together.

Distance covered from recorded player matches, in kilometres. Per 90 uses matching recorded minutes. Running/sprinting speed thresholds follow the provider and are not supplied; missing readings are unknown.
Shares use all players’ recorded totals, including players hidden by these filters. A larger share means more concentrated output, not a better player.
Positions show each player’s most-used starting line, weighted by minutes. Wing-backs in a midfield line count as MID; bench roles fill gaps. This is a season role, not a registered position.
